Hi, im looking to get a cheap xr2 for a second car but need some info first, what bhp is a standard one runing nowadays? obviously it wont be what they come out of the factory with will it?
and what are they like powerwise compared to a mk5 2001 zetec-s which is what i have now, bout 105bhp, are they quicker standard than my zs do you think?
and what price is good for a one in decent condition?
thanks

i had loads of xr2's and to be honest they are quicker than the zetec-s fiesta's, and a lot better and more fun to drive, go for one with the square top weber, they as above says have 96bhp, but be quick good ones are hard to find and going up in price

MK2 XR2 was a 1.6 CVH engine with a 34/32 twin-choke weber carb and a ESC-II ignition and 97 hp, this setup was produced until autumn 1986
the later MK2 XR2 had a 1.6 CVH engine with other pistons and the lean burn head and only a 32/28 twin-choke carb. Rumors say this engine just produces about 90 hp, ford still sold it with 96 hp

96 brake is about right...the earlier ones are apparently a little quicker in a straight line. look for rust...its the only killer.engines are sound if you look after them...although saying that ive now got a problem with mine.haha
the most fun ive ever had ina car without the need to utterly thrash it...treat it with respect and it will do you a great runner. remember these cars are getting on for 20 years old and are nearly classics so you cant throw it about like new cars but my god you can still thrash fast cars in it. yay

ALL FWD applicatioins were VALENCIA as the x flow(kent) which would have been the ideal choice was TO BIG dimensionally.
They are a totally different engine, few parts fit between them(if any) and the valencia is shorter and was designed used in ALL FWD applications.
THEY ARE A PHYSICALLY DIFFERENT SIZE, FORD have never used a KENT in FWD as they designed the valebcai to fit this purpose, NOT just to spend money.

the 950 & 1.1 engines were valencias and have VL stamped onto the block.
the valencia is physicly shorter than the 1.3 & 1.6 engines.
afaik anyways!
the mk1 xr2 is soo much more fun than the mk5 zs though i think the zs is probably quicker in a straight line!

Tabetha, would you like to change/modify that statement, so as not to mislead/confuse people.
