i got a k&n cone it sounds ok at top revs, but it aint that much different from standard to be honest. i got mine off a mate but your gona be looking at £50-£65 in a shop or online. its well worth it thow as u can wash and re-oil them loads before they need replacing, aslong as its done properly that is. plus it looks the badgers!!.

aye i had a k&n on my last car, really nice sound and looked top

been looking round though and i think they only make a 57i kit for the EFi version, whereas mine is MFi

pipercross do one for mine though so it might just have to be that

thanks for the post

i got both, planing on a mk3 soon aswell. efi is a straight swap usin a cone. mfi still has a cone filter but the kit comes with a brackit to hold the meter. at the end of the day filter kits we can buy are made to fit nicely under the bonnet and as cheap as poss. so there not always in the best place for performance. aslong as u get rid of the standered box and theres a cone filter in line it will be better. the best air flow is no filter at all but that would cause engine wear on are roads especaly in the summer. so if it fits it will work. i could bang on about the best way to get air in to a engine and stuff but id be typin for days. ive even used a pair of tights on a bmw it stoped big things like flys and leaves but smaller stuff would of got in so not good in the long run. before anyone with no brains and my mate dave said crap, ive been to uni studying motor tech so yes i do know my stuff! im abit of a geek when it comes to air flow lol!

I tried fitting a 57i induction to kit to my Mk XR3i and it don't fit

To be honest, you're not gonna see that much of an improvement fitting a pipercross kit, may be better to drill some holes in the airbox and fitting a k&n panel filter.

As seen on the picture from the link, the "open" filter from Pipercross replaces the whole filter box. And it's not a cone one.

Many companies used to sell this open filter for the K-Jetronic. But there are not many available these days

From my experience with both engines, you can buy a K&N 57i for the EFi engine and maybe a pipercross, but with the MFi you can only buy the pipercross item as shown below. Unless another company has started making other kits, then this is all there is available.

Hope that helps...

managed to pick one of the above up 2nd hand off ebay, couldn't believe my luck

shed some blood fitting it but got there in the end. not sure about power gains but it definitely rumbles more at low revs and roars a lot louder high up! which is mainly what i was after

thanks for the help/info guys
