Default Ford KA OBD Interface

I have a European (Netherlands) 1998 Ford Ka 1.3i

In the drivers footwell there is a 16 pin OBD connection.

I have been thinking of buying a scanner to go onto it but I am a bit confused by all the different interfaces and protocals out there.

I have been looking at an Orange/Black/Blue ELM 327 v1.4 Bluetooth OBD II scanner on ebay since I am on a very limited budget.

If my reading is correct then this should be compatible with my car.

Can anyone verify this?

OBD2 (or OBD II) only exists in the United States of America and Canada.
In Europe it's called EOBD, but this is not mandatory until 2001.
If you're lucky an ELM works. Maybe check before you buy?

What do you want to do with the ELM interface? Abs, Airbag or things like that?

Checking before I buy is why I'm posting this I have no other way to check since the item is on ebay.

I want to read diagnostic data

Well, I mean borrowing a scanner and actually trying if it works.
Or pay somebody to have it done for you.

Read WHICH diagnostic data?

I don't know anybody with a scanner, paying to have it done costs 10x more than buying the scanner and any data I can.

sorry but Why would I want to spend that kind of money to read diagnostic codes when I can get something for a 10th the price that may work and a 1/3 of the price that will work. Plus I already stated I am on a very limited budget so it's way out of my price range.

Thanks guys I realize you are trying to help but I asked if anyone could verify if a particular scanner was compatible with my car and you guys are suggesting other scanners.

And that one Mattie is a code reader not a diagnostic scanner. A code reader will read and reset fault codes a diagnostic scanner will actually read the live data being sent by the sensors so you get a more accurate picture of what your engine is doing.

ELM327 will work on a KA. Half decent ELM software that will give you Powertrain, airbag and ABS diagnostics and live data is made by Palmer. Have a google for Palmer Scan XL.

For Bi-directional control I use an Autoenginuity setup with enhanced Ford Licence. This gives you loads more control and actuation of ECU controlled parts as well. I have access to.

Powertrain
ABS
Airbag
PATS (timed access Key coding)
Central Timer module/ GEM
Dash clocks
