Lightbulb St170 Timing tool help!!!

Hi guy's

The timing belt failed on my 52 plate st170.
So I bought this timing tool http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281921495649 . but the bar that slots into the end of the cams won't fit in.
Every guide I can find the tool just slots In the grooves, but the cams sit just below the casing so the tool won't slide in

Any advice on how to make sure one cam isn't 180° out would be great too

Thanks

Rotate the cams another 180degrees. They are offset slots

Easy mistake!

If there is slack in the belt between the two pulleys, then they will need to be loosened off to take up the belt slack. If its all tight between the two then no need.

Have you had the engine in bits or are you putting a new belt on in the hope its not bent all the valves?

I couldn't help but notice the ad says duratec engine. The st170 engine is a slightly tuned version of the zetec 2.0.

It's definitely a duratec bud it says it on the engine cover. But i think you a right about it being a tuned version of the zetec

Yes it is the tools will not work. The is just badged as a Duratec... Don't know why they did that it has nothing even similar to the design of the Duratec

All done mate. As haz said, I had the cams 180° out, So the grooves were at the bottom. The tool worked perfectly.
The first time I did it, I must have moved the bottom cam because it was running very rough. Redone it today, and it started straight away
First time for me so quite pleased
