So after replacing a failed cam belt, I'm having a bit of a problem with my ST170.
Yesterday when I re adjusted the timing, it started first time with the rocker cover off. Today when tried to start it with everything back on it won't fire up.
I've done two turns on the crankshaft and the tool slots in the cams perfect. The only thing that seems to be different is plugging in vtc solenoid . Would a knackered solenoid cause the car not to start?

UPDATE......

Got it started, but struggles at low revs. I'm pretty sure that the timing is correct. Anybody got any suggestions on where I go from here?

It's probably got bent valves if the belt snapped. Compression test would be a good idea.

I really hope it's not bent valves. Seems better at higher higher revs. I will be getting myself a compression tester tomorrow.

The cambelt didn't exactly snap. The bottom pulley stripped the teeth from the belt

did you pin the crank in position and slot the bar in the cams then recheck after tightening everything. if so then a compression test is in order as stripped teeth puts timing out with risk of bent valves.

Yes mate, I've done all of the above. Ordered a compression tester, got to wait for it to turn up.
Does anyone know about the vtc? Could I have disturbed something there or maybe the solonid?
Any suggestions would be appreciated
