Default At170 low Rev bogging

Hi, new to this forum but Im sure you can help, I have a focus st170 2003 it's on 98k

The problem I have with it is, between 1000rpm and 3000rpm underload there seems to be like a miss fire. It feels like you have hit a high gear and under 600rpm if you understand?

The engine has had new coik pack plugs leads due/air filters injector cleaners the lot but nothing has changed!

Before I got the car the last owner did say the head has been off because he thought it was a bent valve? But he insured me it was and put head back on pressure test ect. When you do listen to the engine it seems like there is more of a cam knock on the inlet side?

I'm posting a video I hope you can point me in the right direction thanks. As I said more noticeable underload

Hi,

Have you had any luck with finding a solution?

I'm sure I've got the same problem with my ST170 as I often get judder as I pull away from a stop. I'm certain it's the engine misfiring and not the clutch as also get the occasional stutter/jerk under load/acceleration. Got the exact same issue on my 1.8 Escort as well and it drives me crazy.

On the Escort I've changed MAF, Leads, PCV, Vacuum Hoses, 02 Sensor and TPS. Had enough of throwing parts at it, especially given the extra cost since I'm in NZ. Took it to Ford once and they didn't manage to solve anything. Have wondered about fuel pressure but short of taping a gauge (which I don't have) to the windscreen, it'd be hard to test given it only tends to happen while driving. To me it feels like an incorrect mixture misfire as it's nowhere near as violent as no combustion at all.

Not sure where to go from here though as I'm a bit sick of throwing money at them without success.
