St170 eml light on

Default St170 eml light on

Hi just bought another focus st170 53 plate 103k very good condition but has eml light on but not affecting the car in anyway what so ever and passed the mot with it on but was on advisery that it was on ,Anyone have any ideas what it could be as the owner has said its something to do with a sliver box down next to manifold something about a connection has gone rusty but I don't know anything about these cars yet ,any help would be great as would like to get the light off lol

The silver box being the Inlet Manifold Runner Control Module (IMRC)

You can do away with the IMRC if required, as its costly to buy new from ford.

how would I remove it and the light is sometimes on then sometimes not lol

Defo sounds like imrc there is a transistor in them that can fail

Just unhook it from the inlet manifold, disconnect the plug from the IMRC. The clever thing ford did was set the default setting of the manifold flaps to be for High Output when not in operation. So you lose a little low down torque if not mapped accordingly.

My brother did away with the box and dialed the cam in instead. Mind you it's also not in a Focus or running the ST170 ECU lol

Buy a £35 scanner off the bay and read it it'll be P1518 manifold stuck open bank 1 , remove it clean the contact inside job done

So when getting it remspped just say u want more low down torque?
