Bit thirsty regardless, having said that a 2.5 turbo isn't gonna run on fresh air.

We've had one in the fleet for a year or so, on over a 100k now, behaved itself quite well though.

I think owning a Focus ST depends on A what you have owned before and B how old you are.

I bought my focus ST when i had just turned 19. They look great, Sound great after a couple of mods, go well everything a 19 year old could want however the build quality of these are not the best. mine was a 07 and had many squeaks and rattles, i now have a 53 plate Golf R32 which has absolutely no squeaks and rattles.

I would probably not own another focus ST due to the build quality i think. If you have to even think about fuel consumption do not bother getting one. In my opinion theres no point in buying a powerful car to not be able to fuel it and then if you go on the motorway sit in the slow lane doing 60 to get "good MPG" its pointless.

The last thing i have noticed from the STOC forum/Facebook page a lot of 'Chavs' seem to be attracted to the focus ST 'I raced this' 'I raced that' seems to pop up a lot.

Im 20 nearly 21 and much prefer the refined Volkswagen these days.

good value for money car except as mentioned fuel economy is dreadful and on par with a range rover lol, as for the comments on the stoc being chavs I actually thought that was what that club was for anyway as nearly everyone I see with a stoc sticker would not look out of place wearing burberry and bling

I had a ST brand new in 2007. Great car that is an absolute all rounder. Docile around town, great on a B road blast and quick in a straight line with minimal mods. They are 'juicey' but you can get reasonable mileage if you don't constantly rag them. Great value too.

There's sod all wrong with quality IMO. Same as all makes, some squeak some don't. Mine was an 07 plate and nothing squeaked or knocked.

Plenty about now with good mods but as they are cheaper the chavs are buying them.

So have you been sued yet by them on the STOC for copyright?

A group I wouldn't bother joining tbh. And I had paid membership at the start. Whoops!

mine's a pfl 56 plate..

Good points,

big boot
spacious
good looks
sound awesome with just a decent decat(esp when cold )
Comfy seats
stereo is very good as standard..well the speakers tbh as units shit.
lovely low rear footwells so piss easy to get kids in if 3door imop.
easy to live with, very docile and will do 35+mpg if driven proper.

owners club STOC have for me at least been very very helpfull, shame the ST still has its chav rep though

Bad points

AA membership should come as standard,
and not the mechanical kind, it is FRIGHTENING when hooooof'd, Rab C would be proud

build quality aint the best, but thats ford

mauls tyres!! unless they are the hardest compound known to mankind which then destroys the handling...
so make sure its got a QUALITY set of medium compound shoes!!

they destroy wishbone bush's/bush's in general for fun.
watch for balance resistor faults with the headlights
head unit on early ones is shat.
trim faults galore, do rattle abit
fkin easy to kerb the rims

every cunt and his cat wanna pop at it..solution, mountune badge
ZEEEE GERMANS stay well away then

if you want 5 seats dont get the leather!!

aint that quick tbh, my FRST WILL destroy it on anything B-road twistie

They do handle well but its heavy, its got the grunt but id still take an 80's hatch over it any day.
you get more chips than maccaine can produce
VERY sensitive to maintenance. and as above the component wear is frightening.

the neg list is long BUT when you give it some it does make up for it...just

id give it a Fragtastic 6/10

Thanks for all the great feedback ,mixed emotions then ,I've owned some thirsty old bangers so not to bothered about mpg or rattles ,I've had stripped out mk1 and mk2 escorts ,the chav thing puts me off a little bit though however you get chavs in all walks of life

Mines an 07, had it over 4 years and only problem I've had was the air con condensor, no rattles or squeaks, got a stage 1 Bluefin on it and get 20 round town and 32 on a run, I'm on my second front set of Ultra Sessantac's and they have helped eliminate the torque steer along with a 4 wheel alignment. I love it and have no plans to get rid.

If I had the money and the space I would love another one as a second car. Unfortunately they have a lot of gremlins that can cost big money to put right, mine was starting to go that way so decided to get shot before I needed to spend a small fortune.

Loved every minute of ownership of mine though, they are however not really a car you can use as a daily for a long period of time unless you have deep pockets!

I was getting through a pair of tyres every 6-8000 miles (Ł200 a corner for something decent), big brakes are dear to replace, they are a weighty car but do encourage spirited driving which does unfortunately put a lot of wear on the drivetrain.

Same as. I never bothered unless one stands out and interests me.

Mixed groups are always the best.

Same for the RS though. If they're all lined up you just walk on by as it's boring.

If I could choose between the two then RS! But if on a budget a well modded ST.

The do look awesome and better base to start with for mods. Few pushing out over 550 bhp now.

I'd love one. Said I'd have an ST one day and had one. Said the same for the RS but that won't happen now thanks to not keeping it in my pants

I'd go RS if I had the choice of 2.

How's you after your little prang?

tbh fella the mk1 frs is awesome its much more in touch with the old skool feel of fords proper hatch's, it is simply an epic car nothing like an ST, the ST is simply more metal, less aggressive and made for the sensible chap who aint looking for warp speed everywhere..

I test drove a few before the ST and one in perticular had a silly valve fitted, it really was like jumping back to the good old days, proper woooooosh ptssssssshhhhh hahaha i loved it, but the ST's million airbags sold it to me as its for family needs sadly otherwise the mk1 would(still might...)be here.

The MK2 RS is tbh a different animal all together, you cant really compare it to either rs or st, the ST is a lazy fat mule compared to both, but the mk2 rs for me atleast was a bit too showy and no 5th seat but again if i were single id have it but for me atleast not over a mk1 rs thats the daddy to me

ST is an awesome car if you respect its purpose, it does family very well, and destroys A roads when you fancy some late night loonacy

Do it fella you get alot of motor for your money

I had an '07 plate ST3 and I really liked it but it was a thirsty fucker around the doors!

Always fancied a mk1 FRS so I did a swap for one a few weeks back and I must say that I much prefer the RS over the ST! Much more fun and aggressive to drive than the ST!
