Default My ST170 project

Hi all this is a thread about my ST170 its a slow project as time and money aren't easy to come by but i'm getting there .
here's a picture of my headlights halfway through tinting.
Iv had to restore them as they had those deflector pads burnt in and the lenses were all yellow and marked so when I had restored them I tinted them to protect them and because I think it looks better il add more pictures later.

Done some tinting on the rear passenger windows but the rear screen got a big crease in it so didn't fit it waiting on replacement.

do you not use the key in the door latch with the door open, sure there's a little hole for it.

Quick update took my car into work "I work at a garage not a mechanic more like receptionist" so while on the ramp and after the test drive the mechanic at work has said I need a new clutch kit which aint good so im booking it in to be done asap. I did some diging around and found this which shows how to set up auto windows and door locks as well as other info on the car http://www.fordst170.co.uk/useful.php
will keep the thread updated as and when. on a side note may be purchasing a mk1 xr2 for doing autosolo's and maybe more! exciting times atm.

It's having the clutch done at the moment but depending on what the boss says and funds may drop in a dual mass flywheel interestingly the one that's in mine is made by LUK who we use which is handy may get a stainless steel manifold and down pipe so it tidies up the engine bay and will sound nicer. so here we go Name: 1270110_10202142677992097_1487888103_o_zpsc37d11f6.jpg

I started cleaning the inside of my rims on my lunch done the fronts today so will try do the rears 2moro.
I gave the lads a hand getting the box out of it this morning so thought id take a few pics any comments and opinions are welcome.

Quick update my dual mass is being replaced after all so its going to cost a little more than I had planned but at least doing it now means I save 5hrs labour as everything is all ready out.

How long did it take you to do the clutch.

iv seen this thread http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/a3-s3-f...gasflowed.html on porting and polishing the head and skimming it on an st170. Now would this do anything for a standard car or would it be a waste of time? I have a mate that does machining and I could get the lads at work to pull it all apart so wouldn't cost me the earth to do. Also is there anything else anyone recommends for power increase. I need advice on the best sort of tyres. I have decided to use eibach pro springs in black. I need advice on what pads and if needed discs to use aswell all for fast road use. Thanks in advance.

A p&p'd head aids flow etc. The basics of gases in gases out and ultimately will aid power. Coupled with induction and exhaust mods it would be worthwhile if its inexpensive for you to do. That said, the ST170 engine is regarded as the best zetec ford produced and essentially already in a good state of tune. People have reported losses from changing the exhaust as it is tuned perfectly for the car.

If you've not already use a K&N panel filter in the standard airbox, then get a deflector from an auto focus to go in slam panel that directs air into the snorkel, remove the resonator box from the side of the airbox too for the induction noise.

You could decat it but i'd say you will need to custom map it to make the most of the mods.

An off the shelf obd plug and play remap works well by all accounts, dreamscience being regarded as better than bluefin.

Brakes, i've always liked ferodo, they can be noisy but i've always found they last well and perform as good. Don't be tempted by cheap pattern parts for brakes, i glazed the cheap pads and the discs with good pads still fade far too quickly.

I've found Falken tyres to perform well and aren't stupidly expensive. However.....these are heavy on tyres they wear the inside edge both front and rear, we usually have a pair every year on the front. There are better performing tyres but its a trade off against cost imho. The real pricy brands may perform better but you'll likely still be replacing them as quickly

Hi all been a while since I was on last couple of things have happened while iv been off the site. Firstly the replies to posts from members. turbo-herman thank you its nice to see people taking notice of my thread although it is a very slow project.
mcst thanks for the info as soon as I have some spare money im going to start getting parts and one of the lads at work said theres a company over here that do mapping on a rolling road so would that be a route to look at or do I stick with the mainstream mapping systems?
minder yes the paint had loads of scratches and was faded im interested in going full on bufty for next year any hints or advice would be great.

So the news isn't great iv had a little accident and im also an engagement ring lighter in the wallet dept lol.
I had just got my car out of work from having the clutch and dual mass replaced and so I went for a little blast car slipped away and mounted a curb so now iv had to replace a tyre and the suspension dampers as I bent the p/s/f.
