Default Replacing handbrake cable - ST170 Mk 1

Hello all,

Car failed MoT yesterday on front track rod ends and handbrake. The handbrake was non existent, a combination of sticky cables and very stiff mechanism on calipers. Today spent rebuilding calipers, sliders seized, pads stuck and handbrake arms almost seized. All back together now and working much better.

Cables still a bit stiff on both sides and odd in that they appear a bit short (about 10mm) which is causing the pads to drag a bit on the discs causing them to warm up. Adjusted out to max limit on handbrake lever thread.

It will be fine for the MoT retest as brakes and handbrake work great now!

Had a look at replacing the cables this afternoon - looks like a dog of a job - anybody had a try and do you really have to drop the exhaust off?? I can't see how else you can get into the area under the handbrake lever to disconnect the cables.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Julian.
