ST170 clutch and flywheel change
Evening all,
I recently picked up an 82k 03plate ST170 and the clutch is slipping. Im going to be changing both clutch and fly wheel and am torn whether to go for another dual mass fly or pick up an aftermarket clutch and solid fly combo. I've read quite a lot of threads on this subject but would like to ask people what the current thoughts are on the matter. I'm not overly bothered about improving the performance side of things (though obviously wouldn't complain at some extra ooomph) and am worried about the rattle/chatter that people talk about after fitting a solid fly wheel. How noticeable it? and do certain manufacturers make noisier/quieter ones? and will it do any damage to the rest of the car/engine?
I was looking at http://www.willpedleyracing.com/shop...-flywheel-kit/ which is literally as far as my budget will stretch - has anyone got one of these fitted? or can someone offer a better alternative?
Any advice appreciated
James

Hi mate ive just finished my clutch change i put a ford clutch and flywheel back in along with the central slave cylinder, when i completed the job the seals packed up in the master cylinder so had to replace that too. My advice would be go stock as the solid fly makes a horrid drive i done the conversion on my old mk4 golf gti and i hated the vibration it made. Just have some spare cash ready for other parts trust me.
Thanks for the reply,
I went with a stock DMF and clutch and a new slave cylinder in the end and also had new coils, leads and plugs put in as the car was misfiring on cylinder two. This weekend I instilled new mintex grooved discs and pads and tomorrow a new camels kit and service. Oh and i had to the nearside front bearing changed. HOPEFULLY that'll be it for a long time ....its been an expensive investment so far!
