ST170 Cambelt replace - Update
Last year I bought the wife a 52 plate 65,000 mile 5 door ST170
A year later it was now due its Cambelt replacing
Seeing as I work for myself MOT, service and repair I finally got round to doing it (own cars always take a back seat - lol)
Once stripped I found that the cambelt timing on the "factory fitted" original belt was out on the Inlet cam by about 1/2 a tooth but this could have been due to wear/stretch in the belt.
Used a Dayco kit KTB408 which has 1 x tensioner 1 x idler and the belt
Easy to time up engine and not a difficult engine to actually get to the belt etc
After replacing the kit the engine is now quieter and a small rattle has also now gone (poss worn tensioner) and all is well with the drive and power etc
So all of you who may be cautious of doing the timing on the variable inlet cam pulley I can say it is no more difficult than a "normal Zetec type" engine and in fact it is slightly easier as the crank pulley is on a woodruff key and not free spinning.

did you loosen off the two cam pulleys and lock the cams and crank in place? mines is going to get done in a few weeks hopefully and ill be doing it, once you had the belt on and tensioned do you just tighten the bolts on cam pulleys and spin engine over by hand and recheck the timing??
