st170 conversion
Hello all,
Im in desperate need of some help i brought a mk1 focus st170 conversion registered as a 1.4 from ebay as spares and repair. the previous owner said it was headgasket and dash/dials not working (simple wire fix i was told) i replaced the gasket with timing belt along with the cams (both cracked.) fitted new battery and tried to start. unable to get it started i decide to remove the toad alarm. by doing this i managed to get it started i drove it around the block when it cut out on me. back to the drawing board i decided to tackle the dash problem as there are no lights except oil and hankbrake warning light. i remove the i dials and tried to start. the car fires up on the button. refit dials and still started first time then i noticed the oil pressure guage was still unplugged. when plugged in the car wont start but will every time when unplugged.now i suspect that the kid i brought it from didnt do a full st conversion and it still has the standard 1.4 dash loom thats why the dials and oil pressure guage dont work. please help as this car is a real beast and needs to be up and running.

im a ford transit tech and tried to plug in my etis which wouldnt communicate along with my solus and ethos. normally with an incorrect ecu nothing would work untill i change all the programmes over. this starts only with the oil guage unplugged. now i no the st170 has air con but my centre consol doesnt have the a/c button which is another indication the loom may still be the standard 1.4 loom
not necessarily this could go a few ways, 1. he may have kept 1.4 dash and used st170 loom and 1.4 clocks not st170 (check engine bay for aircon)
2. he may not have changed loom and ecu
3. he may have wired it up incorrectly.
st170 clocks say st and have oil pressure gauge next to it.
