hi guys picked up a mint st170 imp blue 54 place december 2004 model love it to bits...did an oil change today and from what i read somewhere...cant remember where...the oil capacity is 4.25 litres but nowhere does it say if this is including the oil filter canister cc or max or min at that amount
i have put in 4.3ish litres of comma xtech 5/30 oil in and a new filter wierdly the level....on level ground.... (both soon after taking off the ramps) and taking a few miles to a layby to re-check) level reads about 5mm over maximum level.....thats mad right???? its definately on had 4.3 litre tops because the bottle is only 5litres
are all the ford focus dipsticks the same in length etc etc i wondered maybe in its life has somebody accidently replaced the dipstick with the wrong type for the car.....bearing in mind the dipstick tube is original (rusty)
any help greatlky appreciated

An st will take that amount of oil from empty. when you change the oil you will always have some left in the sump. did you warm the oil by running the engine for 10mins before you changed it? this makes the old oil thin and you get more out. i never fill by volume i keep a check on the dip stick level to tell me when its had enough. over filling can do more damage than under filling.
