Mk1 remote central locking
I was wondering if anyone can help me out. We've just bought a Mk1 Focus which hasn't got a remote central locking key. We always have to put the key in the door to open the car.
We've only got the one key, which I believe may be the spare.
Is it possible to get a remote key for the car to open and close? And did all the MK 1's come with remote central locking?
Thanks.

no not only dealers can do it. if you do go to a dealer i think its around £130 with a key. you can prob get it done at certain locksmiths but that will require lots of phone calls. can prob get it done around £80ish
Just spoke to a dealer and they said it'd cost £75 for the key but as we've only got the one key they'd need the car for an hour which is an additional £90.
Think the local locksmiths are the next step.

What trim level is your car? If it's a CL then they don't have remote central locking.
LX, Zetec and Ghia all do though. You will need to buy a remote key and a blank blade for it. Any 'blue chip' keyfob remote will do the job, a 'red chip' one definitely won't work though, these used to be able to be picked up from eBay for around £10 - £15 and a blank keyblade for the remote is a fiver from Ford. You're looking at around £6 - £8 for a locksmith to cut your new key based on the code they can depict from your current one.
Once you have one working keyblade and one cut-but-not-coded-remote key you need to go to Ford or anybody who has the same tech as a Ford dealer (a Ford specialist garage probably) who will then need to recode your 2 keys and your car all to each other..............this unfortunately is the expensive bit and the only bit you absolutely cannot get away without doing.
Once you have 2 fully coded keys you can purchase more remote keys (Jaguar flip keys work as well as I have converted one as to work with my Focus) and blank blades and have up to 10 keys coded to your car - all of which you can do yourself.
Silly question - can you not go back to whoever you bought the car from and ask them to find the remote key? Would save yourself around £100!

Best price I've got is £85 so I think I'll go with that.
