Rough idle, reving between gears, Help!
Hey Guys, I have been reading so much good advice from the members here i feel the need to consult the experts on my issues.
We bought a 1999 Ford Focus Ghia, 106k on the clock, 2.0 Zetec engine.
It always starts and runs ok most of the time, it had a rough idle and 100k+ on the clock so it needed a cambelt and a bit of TLC to bring it back to scratch.
We dived in and replaced the worn parts of the engine but we are still suffering from the rough idle which makes the engine hunt at tickover and the engine reving high between gear changes (to about 3k before falling on its own) which is progressivly getting worse!
Since its purchace a month ago its had:
Cambelt and tensioners
Serpentine Tensioner
Water Pump
Idle air control valve
Spark plugs, Air Filter, Oil (5w30), Oil Filter, Antifreeze/Water
Splitfire Plug Leads
Coil Pack
I then proceded to swap the following out for alternative items
Speed Sensor
TPS Sensor
Camshaft Sensor
MAF Meter
....and all results in the same issues.
Computer shows no faults recorded, Speedo dropped to zero a few times after the cambelt was changed, however, cleaning up the connections and swapping the sensor out has solved this for now.
I did look into the possibility of this being an EGR/DPFE problem, but the engine has neither! The throttle body has caps over the connecting pipes and the egr valve is not present on this engine.
We did a load of road testing yesterday and found driving the car with the speed sensor disconnected made it run great - revs fall quickly between gear changes and the idle was a healthy 1k although there was still a little misfire in the engine but not as noticable.
I'm running out of things to change and am not sure i want to jump in and replace the computer yet! ANY help on solving this would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance
