Default Xenon Problem

Hey Guys this is my first post on here and i know its probably come up lots of times before but i need help.

I bought OEM Xenon headlights for my 2003 Mk2 Focus and when i installed them all the lights worked except the xenon part. I know the person i bought them from and they were working fine before i got them.

Can anybody help ??

Did you change the wiring loom plugs and fit the auto levelling system? Pretty sure you need to do this to get them to work properly.

Might also have blown a fuse as they draw a massive current when they start up. Don't know if the fuse for xenon lights is bigger than the one for standard lights though...

Hey guys thx for the replies

i havent fitted the auto levelling system on this and the wiring loom i have fits ok. however im not sure if the standard wiring loom is maybe missing anything that is needed for the xenon part to work

The fuse hasnt blown as i have fitted my old lights back in for now and they are working ok.

I know the xenons have a mighty kick but im not wanting to mess about with the ballasts at all lol

any more ideas?

I know someone did it when i was on a focus forum a few years back, and he definately had to change the wiring multiplugs on the car's loom to make them work.

You mean the mk1.5 not the mk2 (2003)

What car where they on when working???? Were they std fitment, as the loom
connections are different for the xenons.

You need to bridge pin 6 and 8 as the xenon bulb has its own earth supply, the
mk1.5 only used 1 earth for the lights, where the xenons use 2

They will work perfectly without the auto levelling, you can wire them up so that
the manual levelling control in the car will work tho, although this is a little more
involved.

I do all my wiring inside the light unit, as then it leaves the cars loom std so if
you want to stick in the std lights at any time you can

Ive done around 15 pairs now

Hi Lami

Yeah the other car had these as standard... and yeah MK 1.5 hehe. How do you wire it up for the manual levelling to work? What do you do for bridging this out as i would like to leave the car loom just incase i decide to change it back. I have the Headlamps off the car just now so i can do anything thats needed before fitting them to the car.

Cheers

Richie

I can post pics if needed as well lol
