Hay everyone,
I am now an owner of a MK1 Focus RS after having an ST170, ive fallen in love with these Focus's.

About 20% of the time when i start the FRS in the morning it just die's out on me, and i have to start her again with a little rev.. When warmed up she drives fine.
I know its a shot in the dark but any comon problems or any ideas?

I have full exhaust system (manifold decat etc) bluefin uprated cooler and turbo.

 

i gt this prob in cold weather aswell duno wht it is

 

Could it be an intermitent problem with a cold start switch or something?
Where to look? (still finding my way around the engine bay)

 

I think that this is a problem with the earlier RS focus' that had the original AE map which is regarded as a better map than the later AF map which had a lean spot. The problem with the AE map is what you have just stated in that for cold starting it can be slightly erratic but that is just a characteristic of the map. I think the only way round this is to have the map tweaked by somebody not a generic flash map as the problem will still be there.

 

Sounds like the AE map. It's unusual for any to still be on that map though, as ford did the swap to AF as a matter of course when the cars went in for servicing.

It doesnt idle eratic, just dies when cold.... But not all the time, would it still be the map?
I have conected a bluefins to it

 

Yeah mate that's what I mean the map is erratic in terms of its cold start characteristics, might be fine one day. next day starts playing up. This is a known issue with the map mate I would think. Bluefin won't play any part in it it is the base map itself that has the cold start issue. I don't know how to go about fixing it though...some have changed the map with a custom one, think there has been situations of different spark plugs used but not sure.

 

try different plug gaps this sometimes can help. Failing that look on the rsownersclub bbs, and p/m a guy called lami he can put AE back on for you.
