Default Xenon Bulbs

I have just got some Projector angel eyes, as below.
I know this is a n00b question, as im a lighting n00b!
But can i fit Xenon bulbs straight in?
Or are the Xenon's for HID setup's only?

Regards

You can buy the Xenon gas filled bulbs which will work with the projectors but they are completely different to actual Xenon headlights. The real xenon bulbs will only work with a HID setup as the light comes from arcing about 20,000 volts from one electrode to another which is completely different to the filaments of a standard bulb. Would be worth getting a HID kit for the projectors though as you do get very good results, expect to pay about £60/70 for a decent kit on ebay. Nice car by the way!

Got them fitted, but it says not suitable for hid. Does that really mean no hids allowed?

Well it usually advises not to because in some cases the extra intensity can damage cheaper projector headlight units and some say it because technically HID upgrade kits are illegal. I fitted a bi-xenon HID kit to my standard lights on my mk1 focus and have had great results. But if you want to stay legal I would go for some better bulbs. Philips Xtreme are about the best on the market with about 90% increase in brightness over standard bulbs. Using projectors will improve this further.

I thought the 'no HID' on some headlights was because of the heat produced by HID's?

well after lots of reaearch without AUTOMATIC self levelling and a washing system, it i get caught with hid its points and a fine and invalid insurance.

So for now i've settled for some Ring 100% brighter Xenon upgrade bulbs.
I had osram night-breakers before but they blew after a few months, not so good, and the Philips Power-x or what every there are called dont look that great.

Lets see how things go.

They are a huge amount brighter and technically they are illegal, but I guess it depends how clued up your local police force are (lol at northants). Probably wouldn't wanna risk it as much with yours aswell as it's newer. HID's are cooler and use less power than Halogen, the RING bulbs are advertised the most but upon seeing results and autoexpress tests the Philips came out by far the best. your choice though! I work for halfords and we have our 90% brighter which are good but don't last that long. Ali
