Default ST170 vs 1.6 Focus Engine

Hello everyone,
I am doing an engine conversion to my 1.6 litre Focus to a ST170 engine. Id like to know what are the differences (if there are any) under the bonnet between the cars apart from the engine.
Are the mounting points the same, or would I need to buy some mounting plates?
Are the shock absorbers on the front different? I am changing the hubs to the ST ones and I know they are different to fit bigger brake discs but will my shocks that I have right now also work?

For now thats all from me, hoping to get some information.

Thanks!

shocks are same size so will fit in the st170 hubs but the st170 has stiffer springs (also lowers car by 10mm) and i think stiffer shocks.

also the st170 has the getrag 6 speed box due to the narrower power band needing shorter gear ratios.

you will certainly need the st170 ecu and engine loom and even then you may well have problems as the st170 fuel pump is coded to the ecu so got knows how that would work on your conversion.

it certainly is doable swapping the lot over.

oh and you'll need full st170 exhaust system too.

this is a fairly big conversion imo

hi setco, a bit funny you're asking here instead of our polish forum...
anyway, don' bother with details - just buy a mildly crashed st170, put it aside yours and swap parts one by one... for a complete swap you have to change almost everything - all the looms, hoses, wires etc...

hate to say it, but it would be much smarter to just change 1.6 for a st170, really

Exactly what i was going to post, buy a heavy rear ender and change like for like.

MisiekT_PL i could see his point if he had done body mods, inside etc, suspension etc. But if the car is in a std position i'd chop it in for the ST170.

Atleast then you won't have teething problems, electric problems.

from what i've gathered off st owners is the st is 10mm lower than a normal focus cos if you buy the eibach springs they lower a normal focus 30mm and an st 20mm.

having said that i have a mk1 2l zetec and i think that looks as low as an st and thats on standard suspension but my mum's mk1.5 tdci is defo higher

Thanks for the feedback!
I was curious about the shocks as I have airride and don’t want to change the custom suspension.

I basically have the whole front portion of the ST170 so many issues should be solved gearbox, driveshafts etc.

Probably selling the car and getting an ST170 would be best but I just don’t feel like letting the car go as I know its whole history and am the only owner.

Will post once conversion and other add-ons are done

Cheers

lets set are the fuel system
fuel pump
remove the return line

wiring
you need the whole lot from the st

suspension
front st shocks and springs
rear on the st is just lower

exhaust
you need the whole system

engine bay
you need everything out of the sts bay bar steering rack. coolant system pas pipes engine mounts really everything.

odd stuff
headlights if yours is a mk1
speedo ect

really ive gone from 1.6 to 2.0 and the only diffrence was i didnt have to change any of the fuel system.

oh yeah and the gear stick and linkage

but you can use your current linkage stick gearbox mont and torque link if you swap your 1.6 ib5 for the 1.8 ib5.
170bhp will not break a ib5 hell 1000bhp wouldnt its torque that breaks gearboxs and the st170 doesnt make much more torque than a 1.8 so it would be fine under the power.
