Default Focus MAF

Does a 2002 1.4 zetec se have a MAF?
There is just an empty tube where I would expect the MAF to be.

It does leaving the factory. Maybe it has some sort of aftermarket air filter/tubing etc. I don't know if they can be run without it as it needs to monitor the airflow.

The picture of a 1.4/1.6 model in the Haynes book clearly shows what looks like a MAF tube coming out of the air filter but there is no electric connector attached to the tube. When you examine it on the car it is clearly an empty tube.

My manual is for 2001 - 2004 so models out side this range could be different,

The MAF is located inside the plastic tubing that goes into the air box. You can see the metal jubbely clip where the tubling detaches.
