Smokey engine (First post)
Hello to all you blue oval boys and girls.
This is my first post and unfortunately its going to have to be on a potential issue with my Focus 07' 1.8 TDCI 115bhp.
I know diesels do emit a bit of smoke when accelerating but would you normally be able to see it in car headlights behind when you look through your rear view mirror??? I am only talking about when accelerating hard as it does not happen when driven sensibly. It does not seem to matter at what point in the rev range it is, more that it happens when you floor the car. Is this normal or do I need to pay the dealer a visit. One more thing, I seem to be getting about 36mpg average and while I drive a bit harder than most, the Mrs drives the car 75% of the time and she is a 'chilled out' driver. could this be related?
Other than that i'm pretty please with the car and will get some pictures up at some point. It's like a brand new car and the seats dont even seem like they have been sat in. I also actually prefer the shape to the newer facelift model but it was a financial choice to get a used one, so ultimately no choice lol
I have also wondered how much it would cost to get it mapped/chipped to get a bit more oomph, and is it true you can acheive better fuel economy if driven sensibly?

All diesels smoke heavily when accelerating hard, its just what they do. The old endura diesel engine were known for blocking the EGR valve with soot, this will cause smoke on acceleration, however I have not heard of a problem with a modern ford common rail diesel doing this. More than likely your being a bit paranoid about it!
As for remapping, No it isn't cheap however diesels respond very well to remapping and you will also see increased fuel economy.

have a look here, if you aren't 100% happy after 7 days you can have a full refund, can't ask better than that!
