Default hiya guys and girls

hiya guys and girls i am new to the site and must say there is some very tasty fords on i thort id come on and say hey and ask some information and opions on my g/fs car soon to be mine if i can hurry up and find a job so i can have the car off her and start the project. it is a 1.8 zetec it currently has sports cat, cat back system (well a pipe lol) k&n style air filter , lowerrd about 50mm all round and a set of 17 inch team dynamics my planes if i get the car are

  • full respray in capri blue the one of the usa focus svt i belive does anybody know the colour code for this?
  • st front bumper, fogs and little spolier on the back
  • coilovers to be added as the car still handles like a boat thought the lanes
  • front upper and lower strut brace
  • de-cat as the sports cat bottoms out on the speed bumps around here
  • bucket seats but still on slding mounts to allow use to the back than on track days will fit harness for the day

but then i want to build a strong fun N/A engine so is the 1.8 a good base for this as i no with the cams out of the rs 1800 or aftermaket cams the 1.8 can push 130 with out any more mods so would adding 4-2-1 decat head works cams itbs etc be worth it on the 1.8
or do i go for the 2.0 and do the same kinda mods or the st170 engine but from what i have read seems more work to get in and running

for the people who say drop a rs engine i would do this but i would rather buy a proper rs or another turbo car if i wanted to go down the turbo route but for this car N/A is the way forward i will leave you with a few pics of how the car looks now so any infro would be great guys cheers

also the gears play up a bit the spring has gone in the gear box so it does not pop back to the centeral postion is this a easy fix it pops back one side but the other just stays over to the side and this makes getting into 3rd gear a bit of a pain at times as you have to try and find it also going into most gears its like it does not like going into gears its not smooth really it sits on the gear the will pop in rather than just sliding into the gears nice what could cause this cheers guys

the best mod (performance wise) i did to my 1.8 focus was the st170 manifold and decat. loads more torque and power!

Hello,

have you had your car on a rolling road yet?

best thing to do is get a starting figure then go from there, you'll be surprised at what you may already be pushing.

My 1.8 was pushing 135/137 and that was without cams or a 4-2-1 manifold. 150 should be achievable with cams, 4-2-1 and some kind of remap.

Cars looking good fella,

The return spring in the gearbox takes about 20 minutes to replace, just remember what bit went where, other wise you'll soon find yourself screwed!

The hardest part is getting the center collum out, you basically rip the handbrake up as high as you can (vertically) , undo the screws in the cup holders and the rear and it should lift straight off.

aint had chance get it on the rollers yet but would be nice to see what it has already it pulls nice to 90 mph + and the exhaust not it makes is really nice and very quit when doing normal speeds only realy get loaud when you put ya foot down and the 16v kick in

what was done to yours for your kinda gains over stock? which is around 115 acording to parkers

it only cost me 110 delivered for the st manifold, heat shield, st stainless cat back, st flexi in the end i sold the st flexi on for £20 so it only cost me £90 for everythink!

i didnt fit it i had a local place fit it they charged me £100 to fit the manifold, supply and fit the decat and fit the st cat back. there is a little mod you need to do if you have a 1.8 or 2.0 cat back system you need to drill the wholes out more to make them fit, the only other mods you need to do is get an st dipstick although mines ok with out changing it but its hard to get in and out so im going to change it as its only a tenner! the other mod that you should do is the pas pipe but i havent done mine yet either as they undid it on the brackets and moved it.

i havent used the st heatshiled i have heat wraped it instead

if you want it to properally pop and bang then you need an after market exhaust, i wanted to keep mine quiet as i do alout of miles and sometimes get back from work at 4am and dont think my neighbours would be pleased if they heard me every week lol

it will pop more with a decat though than a cat

the power increase is noticeable, its more tourque than hp the 4-2-1 is for torque the 4-1 is for hp i think

When I had it on the rollers I was runnign the following,

St170 airbox, snokel, k&n filter.
Automatic air deflector.
Magnex cat back.

And nology plugs with magnecor leads, but i dought that makes any difference .

As Alex has said, if you want popping and banging on up shift, down shift, you'll need a 4-2-1 manifold with decat.
