Focus 1.8 engine shaking HELP!
I have a 1.8 zetec petrol with k&n 57i induction kit.
The engine shakes alot while idle and when driving it judders and seems to have lost some power.
I have replaced the MAF with one from a mondeo 2.0 zetec and replaced the spark plugs but hasn't worked.
Any help would be appreciated.

I was told todat that because i always run the pertrol really low it could be letting crap into the petrol filter and blocking it.
Anyone know if its possible to take it out and clean it?

my focus was running slugish for ages and she was always on the empty
changed the filter and only made a small diference, mines a 1.8 too and to change the filter you have to drop the exhaust and the tank to get to it
pain in the ass.
considering im on empty most of the time there wasnt much crap in the old filters, next to check is the injectors

You don't need to drop nothing to get to the fuel filter. If you can get the car up on a ramp its pretty easy.
i cudnt get my hands in to undo the tenmill nut holding the filter so had to drop the tank but to do that had to release the exhaust from the rubers
you could have a leak at in the inlet manifold or in one of the vacuum hoses. its easiest to just remove it renew the seals and use a good sealant when you put it all back on.
another thing to try would be to use a short section of silicon hose between the filter and the MAF to increase the distance between the two. My 2 litre had a similar problem when i fitted a BMC. Turned out that the filter was creating too much turbulence and 'confusing' the MAF. After I increased the distance between the two points problem gone.
As a point of precaution just check you tightened everything back together to make sure you havnt got any leaks in the system.
Hope this Helps

Other thing you could try mate if you haven't is to check the PCV valve and the pipework. Known to cause a sap in power and cause erratic/low idling. Check to see if the pipe is split and/or collapsing under load and also the valve itself. There is also the ISCV valve. Other thing it could be is a blocked exhaust/knackered cat.
