Default Intercooler??

Looks like my FRS may need a whole new intercooler. I will know for definite on Tuesday (25th) when the approved repair centre looks at it (as my car is under warranty).

However, a new intercooler for a FRS from Ford is itro £1700 (+) and worst case scenario if the warranty does not cover it I don't really want to spend that amount of money to get my car back on the road. So another alternative is to get possibly another make of intercooler, which would obviously be cheaper. I am hoping to modify the engine in the future when the warranty runs out next year so may be an intercooler that I can carry on to use in the future?

If anyone has any help or advice regarding intercooler makes/types/compnaies etc I would really appreciate it. Thankyou in advance.

If you are looking at that kind of price for replacement, I would go air to air.

Pro Alloy makes a great kit

If the intercooler system is shot completely then yes the front mount kit for the money would be the one to go for rather than replacing for the stock Ford parts

However..............the front mount really only benefits the car with higher bhp i.e pushing 300bhp or if the car is running upgraded turbo, etc otherwise you wont notice the effects of the kit

Another suggestion would be to scour ebay or alike for a crash damaged car or for spare parts being sold ripe for a transplant or similar as this may bring your costs down to replace the chargecooler as well.

Bear in mind that a lot of people sometimes think the intercooler itself isnt working when in fact it could just be the pump that runs the chargecooler system

It may be worth getting Frauds to look at it & then get an independent opinion from a specialist like SCC just to make sure Ford arent trying to bend you over so to speak

i really cant see how the chargecooler heater matrix (thing with "intercooler" on i) can possibly be broken. it doesnt do anything other than sit there with water flowing through it.

only way it could break it is if it cracked and leaked.

what is the actual problem? have you taken the chargecooler reservoir lid off to see if water is returning????

Thats the first and only chargecooler I've heard of thats cracked.

They do cost ridiculous prices from Frauds and no doubt are on back order and may not actually ever be available even though fords still may say they are.

Theres plenty of people done air to air conversions and may flog you the chargecooler for a lot less than a new'un would cost.

Alternatively try a specialist company and they may be able to repair it for you.
