Default FRS Turbo Problems??

How do you know if your turbo's given up the ghost?

On my way home this evening i noticed my boost gauge wasn't moving, this then drew my attention to the fact the car had no power when i put my foot down. I've checked that none of the hoses have come off, but that's about as far as i go when it comes to under the bonnet.
Can anyone give me some suggestions on what else to look for before i make the trip to Ford!

Thanks in advance

James

have a look to see if the accuator arm is still on the wastegate... and the clip is still on as these sometimes fall off due to the clip going missing!
this causes no boost and "flat"power wise!

Very small E clip that holds the actuator arm to the wastegate, if thats off then you'd have no boost at all, should only cost you pennies to get a replacement though if I remember correctly the only way ford can get you a new clip is to order you a whole new turbo unit!

If that's the case, I feel an upgrade coming on

I've got a ggr cold air box and bluefin waiting to be installed, so fuck it may as well go the whole hog with an upgraded turbo, Radtec charge cooler and a tubular manifold.

What sort of power will that give, 280ish?

I would say 280 easily - what are you planning on doing turbo wise? GT28 or just sorting the GT25 out?

Aye thats when it starts geting pricey! You'll need a new decat aswell along with a modified bluefin map if I remember correctly. GT28 should see you into the 300's but lads running these are starting to blow head gaskets so be prepared for big bills

Its just the rod and clip rather than a pipe. Look behind the turbo from the left and you should see it straight away.

Ok thanks mate, I must admit i'm pretty shit when it comes to engines

It shouldn't be to hard if i 'm just looking for a rod that's come off! I'll pull my finger out and have a look at it tomorrow, and i'll let you know the out come. What wuld i ask for in the DIY shop if it is the clip that's come off?

Thanks for your help

If the rod has come off the wastegate you will need an E-clip, Couldn't tell you the size Im afraid though I doubt youd be able to buy them singularly.

Thanks mate, I found the problem and fixed it in minutes. It was that rod and you were right ford wanted £900 for the clip, coz it's a whole unit you have to buy!
