depends how long youve been driving???!!! most insurance companys wont insure you if you put a bodykit on. this could be anything from a spoiler to side skirts to be classed as a bodykit. if you havent already accrued the all important 1 years NCB then theres no hope im afraid. youll have a big premium and unless you can afford it youll probably be paying more in insurance than the cars worth!? dont mean to be a bummer an all but thats the way it goes. im 26 and only been driving for 5 yrs and i pay close to £400 on a 2.0 zetec-s. its the modifications that cripple your wallet!!

Default insurance

just bought an st170 and spend hours phoning round every company known to man. Had one decent quote from a-plan insurance (08459711234) and then went on www.confused.com . i entered all the details bar the body kit/ modifications and got a quote. i then phoned up the company direct with the reference number given told them about the bumpers and still got a cheap quote. tell them the answers to the questions they ask only (but be carefull)
I am now paying less than £400 with 6 points on the st170 with custom built front and back bumpers with a 6" exhaust. Worth a try.
let me know how you go on!

When I started driving in Jan 04, I just turned 18 so 0 ncb / points etc. My Focus 1.6 Zetec (4.5 years old at the time) was £1312 fully comp with only me on the insurance with direct line. Thats with £300 off for pass plus aswell. Was cheaper than a 1.4 Fiesta Si aswell.

The 1.6 Focus is a great 1st car. Go for it

i'm 26 and had many different cars/insurances, i think your best bet is to buy and insure a shitbox motor, something like a 1.1 fiesta (even a mini, can be quite fun) keep it for a year then get a focus, for this the insurance is gonna be a low as it can be, in this year you'll also LEARN TO DRIVE, just cause you've past the test doesn't mean your a good driver plus if you do prang this car you won't care. i know it's not ideal to be driving around in a shitter but hey we've all been there mate

at 17 with no ncb there will only be 1 or 2 insurance companies willing to insure you on such a heavily modified and powerful car and it'll prob be several grand + a huge excess.

why don you try confused.com etc for some rough estimates, you wil soon realise that you have no hope unless you have a small fortune at your disposal.

when i was 17 my mums insurance company wanted £1600 to add me ass a named driver to er policy on a complety standard w reg focus 1.8 lx!! i'm now 21 with 4 years experiance and 3 yeas ncb an 3 points (3 points is nothing with some ncb) and pay £600 fully comp on a lightly modified w reg 2l zetec.

at 17 insurance is through the rough, dont even hink of modifying anything in the first year. just buy something cheap to get yourself that crucial 1st years ncb and then go from there.

What I dont understand is this:

I'm 20, with a provisional licence.. To get fully comprehansive insurance (which is ALL I'll ever have) it's £600 for the year. As soon as I pass my test, the insurance rockets up to a massive £1700.

That's for a Mk1 Focus Zetec with a '54 115bhp Zetec-S conversion. It's a joke.

wat a difference a year makes, last year on a 1.4 civic £550, this year on a st170 £600
a year older (22) 1 more year ncb (2) and only £50 more for a car which is twice as powerful and 7x the price

The trick with this is to go for bell/admiral/elephant,

What you need to do is put your parents on as named drivers, for some reason this brings your premium down 100s . They will not be effected if you are to stuff it into a wall as its your policy.
Also put the excess as high as you can afford .. You will not get it cheap but you will get cheaper than confused etc !.
Im 20 and getting a mk1 rs in a few months and its down to £900.

Drive sensibly and respect the road and the rewards will gain on you

with a provisional you have to have somebody sat next to you, and when do most crashes happen?

when somebodys sat at the side of you helping you, or after youve passed and are out on your own?

Bahh.. I'm not really considered a 'young driver' at 20.. And by the time I pass my test I'll be 21 anyway, so it'll all change by then.

well, if you've just passed you're a 'young driver', you're not an experienced one in insurance companies eyes...
