Default Focus 1.8tdci engine warning

The yellow engine warning light on my dashboard came on last night. The engine performance seems fine. I checked the Dtc readout and it said 'none'. Ever since I got the car three years ago it has been prone to displaying a red 'systems warning light' which simply resets when I switch off the ignition. Could the car just be crying wolf again? If there was a fault would it not show up on the readout? Thanks.

What code reader are you using? Strange that it's got a light up but no code stored.

I just used car's instrument panel. I have an ob11 reader but it doesn't seem to connect. Is the car ob11 compatible? It is just a cheap eBay reader so I suppose it could be faulty. Thanks

yes the car is Obd2, make sure the reader does ford's. The code reader on the dash just reads codes for dashboard related faults, not engine faults.

Thanks for that. Useful tip for anyone reading this, U380 reader does not work with 2007 1.8tdci, despite claiming on packaging that it is suitable for all Fords built after 2006.

Got some good news and bad news. Borrowed a Clarke ceobd reader. It worked. Bad news, it is giving a po299 fault code which seems to be the turbo. Is this very bad news? Are we talking new turbo?
