Default Fitting reversing camera Problems

I have fitted a 6" touch screen ICE. I am trying to fit a reversing camera. All the installation is ok except for the signal wire st the head unit to tell the unit to switch to the camera. I have connected this trigger to the reversing light fuse by means of a piggy back connecter. When you engage revers the camera works but the reversing light and sensors don't. Remove the camera connection and everything works as normal except the camera.
I am thinking that something is sensing the additional current required to trigger the head unit to switch modes is shutting down the system. The car is a 2002 MK1 Automatic. any advice work around would be welcome.

I wonder if something odd is happening like you say. How about trying to take a feed off the reverse switch on the gearbox instead? If not you may be able to put a micro switch on the shifter mech on the gearbox?

Default Reversing Camera

I had thought about going for the reversing light switch. Looking at th wiring diagram it seems that the switch is before the body module. It's quite involved to get to the switch. you have to remove the battery tray and engine mount. That's according to You Tube however I am going to see if it's accessible from the wheel arch, that's when the weather improves a bit as I don't have a garage. Thanks for your thoughts, I'll post the results.

I have reversing camera on my van, Chinese head unit and wireless camera, I found it better to be connected to my sidelamps, there are times when I wanted to see behind me, at 60mph putting it in reverse would not end well. I just flick the screen to camera and switch on the sidelamps, no big deal.

Thanks for the tip. VA Connection to side lamps would work but I would prefer to do the job properly. I will try a direct connection from the reversing switch.

You could just have a flick switch to turn it on anytime on that basis, just have a "latching on / off" switch and the screen should auto swap to camera.
