Default Changing ECU

To try and resolve a problem nobody has an answer to i am going to swap my ecu for a 2nd hand one with the speedo assembaly and alarm module and keys. Do i need anything else and does it need matching to the car?

As far as i am aware you need, ecu, key, ecu transponder box and you should be good to go, maybe the alarm module but im not sure. But the ecu,key and ecu transponder box are what communicate with each other and disable the immobiliser. As long as you have all that it shouldnt need matching to anything.

Thanks for reply. I read somewhere on another site,i dont know which, sombody was doing the same thing, and had a reply to change it all including the speedo assembaly, and it may need matching. I still dont know how or why this would be needed, but as i had seen an ECU with all the stuff for sale on Ebay for Ł50 i thought there was something that sombody else knew about changing them with the speedo. Just waiting for it all to arrive.

Mk1 Focus the instrument cluster doesn't need to be programmed, Mk2 Focus the cluster is part of the PATS system and needs to be programmed/matched.

The problem i had was the car would not start. Turn on ignition and everything would light up but immobiliser would kick in and prevent a start. Leave ign on for 10-15 min and it would usually start. Was told possibly a fault in ECU. I bought a 2nd hand ECU with key and alarm module and locks and things. I put the ECU on today and still no start. Put the donor alarm module on and it starts every time. Put my ECU back on and no start,so gone back with the donor ECU and Module. So it was either the ECU was at fault,or when you do this senario you need the ECU and module from the donor car, maybe to sync together.
