Ive had this noise on and off on the drivers side since i bought the car a year ago, wen slowing down or turning left at slow speed there is like a rubbing/grinding noise which is on and off to when i hear a clunk noise when turning the same direction, i dont hear it when turning right unless its at full lock. Ive change the drivers side drive shaft, both lower arms and all front brakes to eliminate it but its still there, ive googled the noise and a few things pop up like a bad wheel bearing, top strut bearing and cv joint (changed that so it cant be that)

What is it, how old etc and...
A 1.4, 1.6 or 1.8 with the IB5 Gearbox
or a
1.8 diesel or 2.0 petrol which has the MTX gearbox?
The clunk, is it felt through the steering, is it only on one part of the lock to lock movement and happens at the same point of movement on the steering? Or is it random?

Its an x reg 1.8 ib5 with 89k miles , the clunk is random doesnt happen all the time but not felt thru the steering but can be felt in the feet area, went to a garage earlier and he said it could be that the caliper piston mite not be returning as fast as normal so the pad is sticking there

No idea then, you have changed what I would have done and did when I had a similar problem on my car.
My issue turned out to be the steering rack but I had a flat spot on the steering only over a small range of steering wheel movement.
The below clips are not my car but this is what mine did...

the steering is fine, the noise starts after couple miles whilst moving but more noticeable at slow speed. took it to a garage and bloke said ofter a quick spin in it that it could be something to do with the brake itself, gonna try take a look at it this week by stripping the brakes and smoothing the caliper bracket so the pads move smoother and see how the caliper piston is

gonna change last 2 things that can be thought of, bought a suspension leg complete shock, spring and top bearing to see if a fractured/ broken spring is causing the noise and while working on that side gonna get that front bearing changed only to see if it stops then get the other bearing done at another time (money tight atm so just fixing what needs fixing)
