Default Urgent Help. Engine Warning Light

Hey everyone really hope someone can help me.

I bought a Ford Focus (03 plate) 6 weeks ago, it was given an MOT and passed with flying colours, nothing on advisory etc.

When I have been driving sometimes I notice that the rev counter and the MPH counter suddenly jump up then back down again. it doesn't do it continuously just randomly.

But this morning on the way to work the Engine warning light has come on. I work an 1 1/2 hour away from where I live, but I made it to work. When I parked up, I noticed the car was chugging a little, like I was sitting in a tractor, is really the only way I can describe it.

I have seen some posts where they say that the warning light and counter jumping is a common fault with Focus, however why would the car be chugging.

I have to drive home and im worried about the car giving up on me! I am getting my partner to book into garage tomorrow but any idea what it could be?
