Hi all
We have just bought a 2001 ford focus 1.8 ghia. The problem we have just found is that the heater blower only seems to work on setting 4.Has anybody else had the same problem.Or has anyone got any ideas as to what the problem might be?
Many thanks Paul.

It could be either the resistor pack or the switch that has failed.

Default Focus Heater Switch Problems

I have read other users comments on the problems with heater switches and decide that I need to replace the resister pack and lubricate the fan motor bearings. Have looked behind the glove box and can see the blower unit housing but not the resister pack. Can anyone tell me exactly where the resister pack is and how to get into the blower housing to get the motor out for servicing.
Photos. would be helpful.

Thanks in anticipation.

If it's like mine, it should be to the right of the fan housing. You'll see the wiring plugging into a white cover, with a screw at the bottom. That's the resistor housing.

Thanks Simon. Will look again. Still need to find out how to get into the blower housing. More info would be appreciated.

I'm assuming you want to get into the housing to lubricate the bearing, as the resistor pack is mounted seperately so you don't need to touch the housing for that.

I'm assuming you know how to remove the glove box? Next, remove the bit of carpet underneath (should be 2 plastic screws attatching it just below the glove box hinge and a third screw underneath attaching it to the bottom of the fan housing).

Next, theres a bit of plastic in front of the housing, which is the feed from the blowers attached by a single screw, remove the screw and it just comes off the blower feed (may need to rotate it slightly).

Remove the power plug from the bottom of the fan casing if you haven't already done so. There are 3 screws underneath the bottom of the housing, which mounts it to the top, remove those and the fan unit and housing bottom will just drop down.

To seperate the fan unit from the bottom housing, there are three lugs on the side you have to push in with a small flat bladed screwdriver, you can then pull the fan out.

Hope that helps.

A quick addendum, if you click the following link and scroll down to about the 8th post, there's a picture showing the location of the resistor pack.

The one in this pic is coloured blue, but the one on my car is white
