Default Ford Focus heater control speed setting dial problem

Hi guys,
I've been having problems with my heater speed setting, where by it didn't work at all when selecting a speed. I've pulled the centre console off today and noticed the connection of one of the wires was a little loose. After re-seating the wire, the heating started to work but only on the number 1 speed setting. As far as I was aware that if it only worked on speed setting 4 it was the resister, but as I said mine only works on speed 1. Is it still likely to be the resister or the switch itself. Or even the plug the wires sit in that then plugs into the back of the dial???

Any suggestions are greatly recieved.
