Default Focus mk1 petrol red lining at 4500rpm

Hi to all,

Just got home from work and on my way back, i had a stretch of motorway with no one in sight, so decided to see if the old lump from the my Focus 1.6 petrol....and punch it in 5th!!!

The car picked up well and went until 120 () and then the speed stopped climbing and came it came to 110 just by itself, without me taking my foot off...and has i'm looking to my foot to see if it was the carpet under the pedal or something, the car climbs again to 120 and does the same again....climbs to 120, comes down to 110, always with my foot planted....like if the car was hitting the red line, but the only difference is the car at that speed is around 4400/4500rpms....

Never tried before to run these speeds....just gave it a go with no one in the road....

Anyone has a clue what it might be?

Was the road totally flat?

My old one used to quite hapiily touch 130mph on the speedo (About 115mph in real life )
Never had an issue, what were temps like?

Even more weird is that....the road had a slight decline and the car should gain more speed....the car slowed down by itself, with the pedal planted to the floor....

Do the cars in Portugal all have a speed limiter?

Pretty sure a guy I know from going to the 'ring from Portugal who has a BMW compact has a speed limiter about 115mph

Could it be?! That's a surprise to me...would be the first, has more guys in the local Focus forum, with TDCi, say that their cars go easily +120 (not like 150 or so, but more than 120...)!
....and my father bought a brand new Focus when they came out, and the car in a flat road with 4 people and luggage, would hit 125 and remember seing 135...
