dont forget mate they are getting older 15 years being the youngest model now but generally if you maintain it and look after it doing a oil change frequently it will be okay.

imo, (i've only been an rs owner for a couple of weeks so i'm new to rsts like u)
they can be reliable if u spend plenty of money on them so that everything is working on them right if not replaced with new parts.
I think aslong as u maintain them to a high standard and don't run silly amounts of power the'll see u good.
if u've just bought one i reccommend the first thing u do is get it serviced then visit a rr, it'll cost you around £100 for the rr tune but the operator will be able to point out any probs or weaknesses in ur car

Reliability? Depends on what you call reliable. To me, reliable is a car that I know will start everytime, and get me home.

I bought my car when it was standard 5 years ago, and back then I never had any major problems that you wouldn't expect on a car of that age. It never let me down once I replaced the knackered battery and a couple of other worn parts soon after I got it. If you keep on top of minor maintainence you won't have a problem.

If your idea of reliable is a car that will run and run forever without doing anything to it, keep dreaming. And if your modified RST keeps blowing gearboxes or something because of the mods carried out, then that is your fault. Ford never built the car to run masses of power. So you can't complain.

That's how I look at it anyway

another thing would be is that i would rather have solid bodywork then mechanically wise being ok. if something like a gearbox or engine lets go you could more easily get it fixed then replacing panels and do welding

touch wood never had any problems with mine, i think if a car is well maintained setup properly etc you wont have problems, so basically make sure theirs no cause for a problem

as said, if looked after RST's are very reliable. People buy them, don't look after them, then rag the tits off them and expect them to start first time and never miss a beat.....

most cars would be unreliable in that case

Mine used to give me all sorts of grief. I then found SCC Performance who now look after the car and got it to it's current state. Bar a few minor niggly problems she has been very good. And I can't say I'm too gentle with her.

These are old cars at the end of the day so problems are to be expected

to make them reliable ie start everytime never break anything takes alot of money, decent management expertly mapped, high spec engine built with the right bits and a proper gearbox like a cts stage two plus.. if you are running 200bhp rs and have'nt invested wisely expect to break down at sometime

Mines only used for track days, but it laps at 10 tenths for 98% of its time.It is 100% reliable all the time, everytime. The secret is parts are replaced before they break, you cannot skimp on any uprated car or it will let you down.Regards Micky
