If your brake fluid reservoir bottle has a sensor it could be the level is getting low because the pistons are extending due to pad and disc wear.

Yep, that's it for sure. When you check the level, remember that the light comes on as soon as the level isn't at max anymore.

As above, for definate!

First time this ever happened to me years ago i couldnt work it out, it would only do it on this on road which is down hill, and cos i was always wanking down it i had to brake hard.

Felt silly when i realised what it was

Could also be a problem with the abs system

Does the ABS connect up to the handbrake light? I thought ABS had its own warning light?

Yes. Most are aware of the abs on these cars being errr not very good. Having upgrading my brakes and having discs all round with no abs was the best mod I have done to my car

I thought as much. Ive had people say the ABS has actually made the brakes fail the MOT tests before, very primitive from my understanding of it. I'm looking into ABS off something more modern, dont know whether i actually will or not yet. All extra weight at the end of the day and being a cabriolet it was shitloads as it is

The ABS is the orange "skidding car! light..but if one of the ABS belts breaks, then the h/brake light comes on as a warning/indication that there is a problem with the brakes.

But as you have no ABS fitted...see the top posts I think: fluid level.
