If you mean the full width cooler then do it they are brilliant. Unfortunately as they are very good I haven't seen one come up for sale on the second hand market.

If you mean the half sized fella then I wouldn't personally bother

just bought a 1/2 size one, fitting it tomorrow.

must be better than std, as its bigger?

i dont want stupid boost, its on 10psi at the mo, and i dont fancy a huge ic, so i think this one will be fine.

anyone have any proof / data to show that these ic's are bad?

Yes the small Pace intercooelr is better than the standard item. If it's that or standard then fit it. Up until a few years ago these intercoolers were the only upgrade option

Turbosystems fitted the chip and set the higher boost setting. Surely they wouldn't set it that high if it was gonna go pop

I have had a bit of experience with tweaking RST's in the past, We used water injection to keep the charge temp down and found the Pace IC had a bit of an advantage as it didn't block the rad and could handle the Extra boost. We did have a problem with the early ones Splitting but i think the welds have got allot better since my Tuning days.

I have seen FMIC's SMIC's and charge coolers used on RST's and to be honest they all had there own faults.

If its for Road use only the Charge cooler wins hands down but is Crap for track days. There designed for burst runs not sustained WOT.

From first hand experience i wouldn't get a FMIC because the seriously hinder the air flow through the rad. I am not 100% sure why it was designed like that? I'm guessing they put the IC in ft of the rad because its the only place they could fit an IC of that size? maybe they where also thinking the lower inlet temp would compensate for the higher water temp?

You are right in that a chargecooler is hard to beat on a road car. I had a moded one with extra rads and big tanks, and it worked very well. The FMIC's are like that is there is no room to fit anywhere else. They defo can be made to work, but it's not simple. The cossie cores are by far the best, in terms of cooling and airflow to the rad.

Rick.

In my early days i worked for a guy who built a Seriously fast RS Van, he had a rad made for him. It was clever how it was done, he had a massive rad made that was nearly 2" thick it sat right across the ft of the van but was not as tall (i'd say 3" smaller in height) he then fitted a 4x4 cossy IC above the Rad. That worked well but it was built with a no expense spared Mentality.

We also experimented fitting Ic's flat with Ducting feeding the Air through them. We kind of copied it of Jap Touring cars.
