STEERING ? DOES ANY ONE HAVE THIS PROBLEM

On my S2 TURBS i find that the steering wheel has a bit of play. i can move the wheel from side to side and up and down some one told me its got some rubber bushes in the steering collum which are likly to be worn if this is true can they be replaced and if so will it be an expensive job to do ANY ONE have any idea how much it would cost to replace any advice will be appreciated CHEERS
This does not effect the steering of the car but just thought i would ask.

It's a small plastic part that usually brakes in the steering column. It costs perhaps 5£ or something. Can't remember anymore, but it's not much. It's a bush type of thing that sits low down just above the universal joints.

come to think of it mine does this but only very slightly.
like when you lean forward at a junction you kinda pull the wheel, then i get a few mm of movement
keep meaning to sort it but too many other things to do first! i presume yours is tightened enough, thats what ill be checkin first!

Its a small plastic bush at the top of the colume.just take of the steering wheel its very simple to replace. you dont need a rs specialist its the same on all mk4 escorts

Had this problem on my rst I think theres a 2 black bushes at the bottom and one white bush at the top. Parts cost me around 6 quid at ford and one hours labour at power engineering at £50. No problems after that although all Escort RS Turbos have a tiny bit of play when you pull on the steering wheel.

if sum1's robbed it b4 it may have bent the colapsable bit of the colomn
i had a xr2 like that
just replaced the lot and it was fine
likerly to be the white little bush thing behind the steerin wheel too,
it could be missing

Ill take a look at the steering shaft and decide werther im capable of changing the bushes my self but by the sounds of things its easy CHEERS
