Default rst lifter tapping???????????????????????????

hi am suspect that my cam has had it as over the weekend the lifter on no 1 cylinder starts to tap realy load when u give it some large and take it above 4500rpm then takes about a 1min to quite back down i have changed that lifter as i thought it might be a faulty one but it just started doing it again i was going to change the cam the weekend but had so much to do on the car dident get around to it and the new cam i have got is suposed to make the car laggey. has any one got any ideas to what it might be causeing the lifter to tap and then go quite ?has anyone else had this problem?

It's loosing it's oil. Putting a new lifter in without a cam is a waste of time. U will need brand new lifters for ur new cam. U also need to check the oil ways are clear to the lifters.

For goodness Sake mate......
1st unless you live next to a race track don't even think about 'performance'
cams
2nd make sure once fitted, you 'run in' the cam ie,- start it up
and do NOT let the engine idle, keep the revs at at least 2000 revs
for a minimum of 30 mins if it starts to overheat turn it off let it cool
and start again until you've completed the 30 mins.

The first commets refers to the fitment of 'performance' cams....in my experience they are the best way to ruin the way your car will perform
unless it's on the track.
Also you know how to fit a cam but not how to identify a knackered
lifter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
Lots of people die from smoking, drinking too much and running down the road in Black track suits at night so whats your point?

Also 'the cam shaft i have u cannot buy no more'/it must have been a 'best seller' ie no bleeding good then.

Anyway I never intended to upset you so sorry if I did.

Another thing to consider is,-
If the head has got a little too corroded part of the casting may have come adrift inside the head itself and could be reaching a particular resonance
and making a rattling noise like the one you're hearing again in my experience not that uncommon.
This may mean having to strip it but usually it can be remeadied with a bit of
'chemical metal' and may mean not having scratch your head any more or
having to fit new cams etc.
All the best
Dr

POWER ENGINEERING SYSTEM 2 ENGINE IS NOT MADE NO MORE SO CANNOT GET A REPLACEMENT CAM THEY STOPED MAKING THE ENGINE DUE TO THE FACT THAT THEY WERE PUTTING A NEW ENGINE ON OLD PARTS FOR EXAMPLE THROTTLE POSITION SENSER GOES WRONG ENGINE RUNS LEAN AND MELTS A PISTON THAT IS NOT THERE FAULT BUT STILL HAVE TO WARRENT THE ENGINE THAT IS WHY THEY STOPPED MAKING THEM .
Also you know how to fit a cam but not how to identify a knackered
lifter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
AS I SAID ABOVE I THOUGHT THE LIFTER WAS FAULTY SO I CHANGED IT AND IT HAS NOW DONE THE SAME THING BY TAPPING AGAIN AT HIGH REVS I JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE THIS IS THE CAM AS OTHER WISE ITS A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY CHANGING IT.

Hi Ash
Good luck with the hunt.
Bear in mind
1, PE Have never made their own Cam. It's a bit like Mercedes Making their own Clutches or Brake pads/they don't, someone (ATE gmbh) else does and Puts them in boxes with Mercedes on them.
If you really wanted to I'm sure someone fully conversant with the Piper, kent or the other usual suspects catalogues would be able to identify
which product it is.
2,I've heard many reasons why a particular Co no longer build engines
most of them daft, if your product is good you'll enjoy prosperity
and happy customers if not, the excuse book comes out and the
'tps causing lean running and warranty claims' sounds like
excuse number 312/7h# 472..........
3, If you use a certain company in Middlesex (which I used to) to tune
that car of yours you should give Jamie at Jamsport a try because
he really will make that car of yours run beautifully and you'll wonder why
you ever bothered with the others.

In case you think I'm waffling
In this months fast ford mag a certain company has it's Focus featured in a shootout with others....
the registration alludes to the fact that it has 400 bhp, the comps website
say's it has 400 bhp.....yet in the feature the driver says it has 'over 300'
and so confident is he in his companies product that he 'doesn't want to
take part in a flat out run' how telling is that?

Power Engineering haven't made engines for years now, they sub it out to possibly the worst company in the world, Vulcan...

Powers use Piper to grind their cams, which is closely based on a T2. You can still buy a "PE Cam" and a "PE Head", it just doesn't come from PE.
