Default Help! S2 over heating!

Started my S2 last night , to go for a steady run to continue running in the new engine and the temp gauge went sky high and the header tank was making a funny noise like it was gonna blow! Has anyone had this problem before?

try the headgasket, may have had its day.
take the head off and inspect it for anything unusual.
change the head and rocker gasket, and head bolts, all quite cheap Ł30 tops.

or could be air or oil probs, split hoses??

air lock
header cap fucked
new engines always runa bit hotter as they are tight till they slacken off!
good coolant mix?

air lock - take the small hose off the thermo housing and the header cap and leave it running till warm, or till water starts comming out the thermo housing.

rad in good nick, not restricted airflow, fan's kicking in and out?

There is a good quallity coolent inside, header tank and cap are also brand new! Fan has been working but failed to kick in last night when it started to expand the header tank. This is what lead me to believe the new thermostat had faild because the fan swithch is the other side of the stat housing?

Sounds like everything is new, is the fan switch new? i'd be looking into the fan problem, try bridging the connection to the fan, remove the blue plug on the side of the thermo housing and use a couple small screwdrivers or something in the connector holes, this will bridge the fan and it'll kick in if it's working (have ur ignition on ) If it works look at replacing ur fan switch as well as getting rid of any air locks

when you've sorted it try puting the fan on a switch on the dash or somewhere it could save your pride and joy in the future mate

Sounds like a good idea
The fan switch and thermostat are new and the fan is a brand new kenlow!
I shorted the blue multi plug out which controles the fan and it kicked in! An over ride switch is a good idea though think ill sort something out for that at the weekend!

hmmm, i've seen that happen before! My old S2, the little rubber boot which is the temp sender (pushes on the head near the thermo housing) was half melted away and not making contact properly, that was my problem, might be worth checking this.......

Changed the stat , fan switch and coolent but still getting to hot. also fan is still not kicking in with new sensor switch, but it runs fine if u bridge it out? Cant understand it, its as iff the water is not getting to the sensor swithch but the colent pipes are red hot every where?? Surly there cant still be an air lock
Some one told me u can get a different sensor that will bring the fan on earlier than the standard one Is this true

That'd still be my main concern, somehow there has to be a fault, i can't see it with a new fan switch tbh! Is it a standard fan, and got another you could test with?
