Hi everyone, i have a loud tapping sound whenever i start the car from cold, as the car warms up the sound does get lower but its always there, i can hear it always especially when im idle. Ive just changed the cam and lifters thinking it was that, but has made no difference. i put in a kent cam kit cvh35k. can it be coming from the bottom end or gearbox??

any advise will be much appreciated.

could be a gearbox rattle, or a bottom end knock (very common on high mileage tuned rs turbo lumps)

if its a heavy knocking worse underload i reckon the bottom end needs a rebuild!

 

check under the car ,as lord lucan is still missing you know!

na,does the tapping rise with the revs!

 

Hi there thanks for the responses, when i rev the car the rattling gets faster but also lowers in sound. when im driving i cant hear it at all. only when im idle.

sounds like tappits but the valves are hydraulic,so maybe needs flushing,mines the same juss now

 

tappets and cam are brand new changed last week??
