Default Hard to get in and out of gear!

My s2 has the mk5 pedal conversion done to it all ready it was done by the last owner! Lately its a real struggle to get the car into gear once warmed up? Even with the clutch down and foot on the brake its trying to pull forward and its gettin to the point now where i dont want to drive it as when i come to a stop at junctions/traffic lights i have to turn the ignition off just to be able to get it in gear!
I replaced the clutch a last month as the teh cable had been spaced off the clutch arm with two 17mm nuts? i thought that maybe the clutch was shagged and the old owner had done this to stop it slipping?
Even with the new Ap Organic clutch fitted i still needed to have the nuts on the arm to be able to get it into gear?
Could the clutch ratchet be fooked?

Any feedbk welcome!

Nick
