Default info needed on zetec turbo!

what is involved in turboing a zetec engine. I have a 2lt black top zetec motor out of my recently smashed up mondy. And the chance of a dead Escort RST. Whats involved in the project and what parts do i require. Ive heard that the power is supposed to be mental when done right. Any info or shopping lists of parts would be appreciated! cheers

yes as you say the zetec turbo power is quite impressive and also quite drivable at the same time how ever if you have the black top engine its not too advisable to turbo the engine up using the original pistons as they are quite weak and when forced to run on boost can melt away due to having thinner piston crowns in comarison to the earlier silver top engine (93 to 2000 ) its not to say that it cant be turboed however as it can be bored out to 2.1 and by having the weaker pistons replaced by something a little more usable (2.0 xe vauxhall pistons or cav. turbo c20let ) the same engine can be turboed up the same way and have the same out come as its earlier counter part.

but dont forget its not just a case of slapping the vauxhall pistons on to the zetec rods as the zetec rods need to be modified to accept the larger vauxhall gudgin pins.

but none the less get it done as you will be quite impressed

Having the blacktop(also used in the Focus) is an advantage imo as bottom end component's are readily available from the States at a fraction of the cost of UK prices. Your also at an advantage with the head used on the Blacktop Steel Rods and Pistons can be ordered for the cost of a set of UK priced Rods.

There is currently a thread in General section with links to various sites for referance and links to supliers.

hope all go's well
