Default Engine Smoke's

Hi all,

I have a 90 spec, RST, its my little restoration project, whenn i got the car i was told the big end needed doing, however the car has a fie mist of blue smoke on start and idle, however not when running (off boost )

When I hit boost i have blue smoke, and then when i lift off a small white spot of smoke,

There is a rattle from the bottom end, is there any way of knowing whats wrong with it.

A friend of mine has bored out a CVH to a 1.9, is this an easy job > and what else would be needed ? if i were to do this ?

Thanks all for your help.

it sounds like to me you need to strip the engine if you have a rattle.
the blue smoke could be oil valve stem seals or piston rings worn or turbo seals knackered.
its on the edge if you bore a 1.6 to a 1.9 as there wont be much cylinder wall left.
best go down the zvh route

if the engine is a power eng system 2 or similar then its only overbored by 1 mm, which is nowt
its all in the crank and pistons to make up the capasity

to make sure alls well i'd advise u to bite the bullet and get a nice new built engine or a seen running mint lump and a new turbo

that was its all sweet for when its built up and finished, if the big ends gone then its gonna need shells and maybe a regrind and a set of gaskets, u may aswell go whole hog
