i had one when i was 18 andf that cost me 900 to insure, but that was 5 years ago, i dont think it would cost you that much if your a named driver on your mums policy, but as nicer said whatever you pay its definatly worth it

I had my first when I just turned 19, was v.exspensive. You could do the mum insures and ur a named driver, still would be not great and some companines probably would not have it, but you can try, tbh either way you will be hammered as you wont be getting any NCB if you don't have your own insurance.

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
If you're on your mums policy, that'll mean you won't be getting any no claims bonus, so 17 year old with zero NCB trying to insure an RS Turbo will be hellish expensive!

Ihad my first rs when i was 21,2 years ago.The insurance on that was 1800 tpft, ive now gone with adrian flux and it has halved to 900, the car i had before an rs was a uno turbo which was quite rapid for a 1.3 but nowhere near as classy as an rs.The first time you buy an rs when you drive it home you wont even need the stereo on,the sound the engine makes is pukka if youve bought a good one

Try Ratebeater.com, they quoted me 470 for fully comp... i was with adrian flux but they were wanting 200 quid more. Your better looking at a standard rs... u'll
maybe get away with simple mods like filter and exhaust but too many mods n u'll b lucky...

IMO
in standard form they are shit slow and handle badly but reliable,
-
fuel is expensive
theft issues are very high
scally image
xr3i comments from gas station people
constant worry
rust is an issue
searching for a good one
buy one if you know your stuff mechanics wise and bodywise
+
the best car seats ever
bought it realising i should have bought a s1
ford stock all(most)parts still
great car when everything works
good luck

Try www.elephant.co.uk or admiral (the same co me thinks).
Fully comp on my 190bhp RST was £465.00 for me and the missus, for social domestic, pleasure, AND commuting - but i'm 27 and 8 years NCB.

my previous car an 1990 xr3i i had to pay £1300 tpft the car was valued at £300 but that was with my previous insurers cia.

I drove a 1.1 rover metro for nearly two years on my own insurance, it cost me £1500 to insure it myself when i was 17! Yet by 18 i had purchased an absolute minter of an S2 that was practically standard for £3895! I was gonna wait til 19 to insure it and have 2 years no claims but just couldn't wait, i phoned around and ended up payin £1500 pounds again tpft but that insured me with mods too! That was through Brentacre, they're quality and on my second year insured it dropped to £1200 and it should drop again this year!
