Default Alernator problems now,HELP !!!

Now my alternator light is stuck on and the battery run flat
while cranking over the engine

The engine had been running for some time so it should have been charging.

Could someone tell me if i could have wired it back up wrong or
missed out something obvious

Cheers

i think there are two types of outputs on sum alternators, a low output and a proper output the one u need, but that was on my old 3i a while ago

did u put the belt back on?

sorry lol, is the belt tight enough?

On the alternator you should have a main battery positive, thats the big thick wire which should be fed all the time, not sure if this picks up from the + terminal on the starter and a thin wire which is the one for your battery warning light/ignition. Check that the thin wire has not broke off, if this is catching the body or any earthed point this can cause the light to stay on, otherwise i'm guessing the Rectifier in your alternators packed in. The light on your dash is needed to excite the alternator to charge, once the alt starts charging the thin wire becomes a positive and in turn the light goes out. The alts not that expensive to repair but you can pick em up new for around Ł40 + vodka n tonic. Hope this helps.

sorted!
what i had done was put the thin wire that links the
starter to the alternator on the wrong terminal on the starter.

it was on the earth instead of live
