Woohoo a 2000+cc engine that makes more torque than a 1600! Who would have guessed that would be the case? LOL

You have built a ZVH with forged rods and forged pistons! Good job.
However that doesn't mean the 1.6 and 1.9 blocks are crap does it?

Personally I would rather have a high winding 1.6 with a little less torque to save gearboxes. Unless one has the $$$ for a mtx or 6 sped gearbox change.

In Canada on the 1.9 cvh we have a 5 speed that will handle a bit more torque than the IB5.

I never said they were crap !!!! u lot love a bitchy session on here don't u lol
I said I have no need to buy one !!!!!I wouldn't buy another engine when my one produces the goods and works would I ??? as for gearboxes my original lasted 11 years so not realy bothered and I like the standard ratios so not intrested in gearboxes tbh and id personaly prefer low down torque rather than high reving as more usable on roads imo

well done gus that's very very very good for a 1600
im still running a standard rst inlet and throttle body there in the process of being changed as we talk so il let u know the new figure
and I get that torque at 4200rpm
do you use yours as a daily runner gus just out of intrest ?? as me an my missus have seen it at tommys most times when weve been up there
I don't think its hard to get big power from any engine I think the harder part is making it every day useable and driveable for every day use lots of power is easily doable but useability and reliability are harder to get imo but iff its built for track days and santa pod then who cares I spose!!and without being rude gus !!!! do you think the 1600 will last over 7 years with everyday use at that power ??? honest question ?

It's far from a daily dude

The engine is out living everything else

The actual engine has been in the car for 10 years just updated
(Bottom end and head)

It's had a pampered life tho

LOL,

Actually I don't like bitch sessions.
The original post was about cvh block strength.
1.6 is quite a stout block (standard 80mm bore)
1.9 tall (standard 82mm bore) is probably a little weaker than a standard 1.6
The 2.0 zetec block could possibly be the strongest?

It is always easier to get larger torque and HP levels from larger displacement.
One needs less revs and less boost on a 2000cc vs. 1600cc to get 300 hp.
I think we agree on this.
Once again I applaud your build!! not bitching

Some here have made very high power with the old 1.6 block too!

I think they are all reasonably strong blocks within limits.

I offered my thoughts on the 1.9 tall block because they are plentiful here, and I have
sonic mapped the cylinder bores to see just how thick or thin they are. No intention to get into any pissing match. - or racing match (unless you want a go against my galaxie)

Cheers

don't know luke tbh but its due a freshen up realy its covered allot of miles scince it was built but im very happy with how its lasted and still sounds spot on .
I have new set of rings and shells at home etc etc as I like preventive maintenance
and it will be intresting to see if this cts stage 2 plus box lasts as long as my standard one did !!!!!!!! its now had a few anti lag full throttle launches and ok so far

my huyandai i20 1.4d could go against the galaxy lol I like the 1.6 ive just never had to run one scince the zetec and I had no luck with the 1.9 maybe just bad luck
and my 335bhp s2 now bores me hence why ive had a new inlet and bigger throttle body made up see how much more I can squeeze from it!! I never built it . it was built by coltec racing engines in Suffolk use to be called holbay racing engines

yup my new clutch we fitted with gearbox has made mine hard work in traffic !! which is annoying as the old alcon clutch was lovley .
and ive got no room on the box to do a hydraulic conversion as my turbo sits directly over it .. my missus finds it hard work to drive now as little legs :O

Can you not mod the inside if box to accept a slave cylinder?

That's how my clutch has been set up

Mine is a triple plate so more like a on off switch
