Default Stereo falling through mk3 dash

Right fellas , my dash has seen better days where the stereo fits and the cage has next to nothing to grip to so falls through

Has anyone encountered this problem and if so what did you do ?

Ps I'm not spending silly money on another dash as aside from this it's alright

can you wrap some masking tape around the stereo and cage then push it in?

iirc when I had mtu it had to use a adapter plate to fit a modern din sized stereo

Not sure on the first option as its the small lip on the dash at the top and sides that the cage grips too that's buggered

Option number too sounds like it might work though , like the mk6 escort ones with a metal surround

build the lip up with fibreglass?

Just had a look on ebay for adapter plate, could be made up from metal plate if need be.
Pretty sure that a adapter was needed though.

I had thought of using some thin steel to reinforce the dash lip and use some sort of quick setting glue lie we use at work but thought I'd ask on here for any better ideas

Definately thinking the din adapter bracket sounds like a possible contender though mate
