Default Front Top Mount Bushes

Im currently running flo-flex and they have potientially ruined my AVOs, so looking for something else...
Obviously super/powerflex are an option, but im sure i read about escort cosworth top mount bushes fit and are a harder rubber compound than standard.
Im thinking they wont be quite as harsh as the poly top mounts.
What do you know?

If poly mounts have ruined you struts what must solid mounts do?

Never thought they'd ruin suspension considering the state of roads!

The polys (in rog's case) have probably gone out of shape due to poor material therefore allowing play. Something solid mounts wouldnt do (unless they were made of chocolate or toffee)

I see. Best get some mounts ordered for mine.

Powerflex at the moment but I'm not 100% happy with them, and I have a bang over certain bumps if I catch it at the right able which I'm leaning towards being worn shocks. Koni's expensive to have rebuilt?

Its not bushes as its quiet and smooth on the road, just certain time it can bang and the right angle.

When i spoke to Koni about mine, they said it would be cheaper to replace a single shock than rebuild it, circa £80 iirc altho that was some years back...

So back to topic, anyone know if escort cosworth standard top mounts fit...?

I used to run escort cosworth top mounts in my ERST, fit and forget.

Guess i'll chuck my flo flex fiesta top mounts that i bought in the bin then, i also have Avo's that i will be sending for a refurb, was going to replace the top mounts with flo flex but i'd better have a re think lol

These ones? http://shop.grahamgoode.com/insulato...33-59359-p.asp

The poly ones are about same price as buying direct from Powerflex.

Out of interest how harsh are solid top mounts compared to regular poly or powerflex black series?

I wouldn't mind the front of my car dropping an extra few mm's.

Will these fit a mk3 fiesta too? Or not

And did you order the bearing and washer kit aswell? Or is it not really necessary

Thats not a bad price really for the full kit I thought

So the part number from ford is - 6720387
They fit and are alot thicker and harder than standard top mount bushes. The easiest way to fit them was to turn the top lip in on itself then let it ping back into place once you have the top mount pushed up under the turret. Took 5mins to swap em over!
One point to note is that i had to lower the car down off the jack onto its wheels for them to poke through enough to get the shock top nuts on, i rolled it back and forward afew times and turned the steering lock to lock. My car also sit slightly higher than with the poly bushes on. It rides so much smoother than with the polys yet still feels stiff!
WIN!

Might have to do this myself, adding a spring mount at the back too to stop it sitting up at front.

Roger can you tell me exactly how you changed them? It's been so long since I've been round that part of my car I cant remember how it all goes together. Did you have to compress the springs?

Also if they are making the car sit slightly higher, can they be trimmed to match the originals?

You undo the top hat under the bonnet, jack car up to allow the strut to drop away from car, swap the bushes then lower the car back onto its wheels so the strut pokes through enough to get the top hat and nut back on. Job done.

As Aston says. I had to drop the ARB or the lower arms from the chassis to allow the shocks to fall far enough away (i find removing them altogether much easier, for the sake of 1 extra bolt). If you need a hand m8, let me know and i'll pop up your way. We could combine it with some light mapping on either car?

As for trimming them i wouldnt want to personally, but it could be done if you wanted to. They might settle down over time, ive not only replaced them but put a brand new set of AVOs on too!

I didn't notice a height difference on mine with fitting tbh. Might be a combo of running shit polys and bent avo's that made the difference on yours rog

I dont think the AVOs affected it much, but the polys were around 1/2 the size of the cossie mounts so they mustve made a diff. In all fairness, the polys looked fine when i removed them, but they are a totally diff design to the cosworth mounts, 2 piece for a start and the shocks sit much tighter in the cossie mounts. Im still undecided if they were/are the cause of the damaged AVOs

I was after a set of rear springs on there own from spax a couple of years ago and they'd only sell a complete set.
I managed to luck out and find some one who was only after the front springs through the forum so we went halves on a complete set perhaps you could try the same ?

Mark.

Might end up buying a set yet. See how it feels after new roll bar setup is on.
